Description
KAWAI GL-40 CLASSIC SALON GRAND PIANO
The GL Series Grand Pianos possess all the essential qualities that have made Kawai pianos a preferred choice of pianists and educators for generations.
They were conceived with one goal: to provide exceptional touch and tone that endures.
Made in Japan, and designed in our most popular “classic grand” size, the GL-40 is longer than many pianos in its class to provide greater bass resonance and enhanced tonal presence.
A popular choice for homes, schools, churches, and teaching studios, the GL-40 is superb for sensitive musicians.

TOUCH
The Millennium III action
The Millennium III Action is made from ABS-Carbon, a strong and lightweight composite combining carbon fiber with ABS Styran.
This durable material allows for lighter action parts without losing strength, resulting in a faster, more powerful, and more stable performance than traditional all-wood actions.
Longer keys
Longer keys make playing easier and ensure a consistent feel across the entire surface.
Their taller profile and concert-length buttons add rigidity, allowing for better energy transfer and power.
TONE
Tapered Soundboard Made of Solid Spruce
The soundboard is vital for a piano, converting string vibrations into a rich sound.
Kawai uses high-quality, straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce for the GL series soundboards.
Each soundboard is carefully tapered to ensure the right resonance in different areas.
Only those that meet Kawai’s strict quality standards are used in the GL series grand pianos.
CORE System
CORE stands for “Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy.”
It describes how the piano’s rim, plate, and beams converge at a central point, creating a strong foundation.
This design enhances the piano’s ability to reflect sound, producing better tonal power and sustain.
STRENGTH
SOLID (Stretcher Over-Lap Integrated Design)
SOLID construction provides a strong foundation for string tension.
First, the pinblock is attached to the plate.
Next, the pinblock and stretcher bar are combined and securely fixed to the rim.
The thick stretcher bar highlights the strength of this framework, which is designed for stable tuning and a powerful sound.
V-Pro Plate
The plate is the acoustically-neutral iron superstructure of the piano over which the strings are tensioned.
All GL Series plates are molded using the Vacuum Mold Process (V-Pro) with “Crossbone Design.” The result is a plate that is strong, stable, and beautiful.
