Touch
MILLENNIUM III UPRIGHT ACTION
The Millennium III Upright Action is made up of components that are created using a composite material called ABS-Carbon. This material is created by infusing carbon fiber into the renowned ABS Styran, which makes the parts incredibly sturdy and rigid. The use of ABS-Carbon allows the creation of lighter action parts that are still strong. The result is a faster, stronger, and more stable action which provides better control and more power than traditional all-wood actions.
DIE-CAST ALUMINUM ACTION BRACKETS
The die-cast parts used in K Series pianos are made from a custom mold and are formed exactly the same way every time. These pianos feature three aluminum action brackets that are also die-cast. This provides added strength, uniformity, and stability for precise touch over time.
EXTENDED KEY LENGTH
Playing is easier and more powerful with longer keys, providing even response from front to back.
TONE
TAPERED SOUNDBOARD MADE OF SOLID SPRUCE
The soundboard is considered the heart of a piano as it is responsible for transforming the vibrations of the piano strings into a rich and resounding tone. Kawai’s K Series soundboards are made from straight-grained, quartersawn solid spruce, which is strategically tapered to produce optimum tonal quality. Only soundboards that meet or exceed Kawai’s high quality standards are selected for use in their professional upright pianos.
MAHOGANY WOOD CORE & T-STAPLED, DOUBLE FELTED HAMMERS
Mahogany hammer mouldings are lightweight and extremely responsive. Found on only the finest pianos, mahogany is used for the hammer mouldings on the entire line of K Series Professional Upright Pianos. All K Series hammers are T-Stapled to preserve hammer shape and fitted with an added interior layer of underfelt to support the creation of exceptional tone.
STRENGTH
STEEL-REINFORCED KEYSLIP
The keyslip of a piano is a long, horizontal wooden piece that covers the front faces of its keys. However, due to its thinness and wooden material, it is prone to warping or bending with changes in humidity, which can cause the keys to stick. To solve this problem, a heavy-gauge steel angle iron is added to prevent any warping and bending in any direction. As a result, keys can move more freely, with virtually no possibility of rubbing or sticking against the keyslip.
KEYBED AND BRACES
The piano’s keybed must be strong and stable to support the action assembly and maintain action regulation over years of heavy use. K Series keybeds are made with sturdy laminated hardwoods and reinforced by rear braces on the iron frame that help to ensure stable placement and add rigidity to prevent energy loss.
